Hmm, now that you mention it, there isn't a subplot to any of the books until book number four. That deficiency isn't so bad in the book when action scenes are punctuated by our hero's thoughts and feelings, but a movie can't use inner conflict as a subplot. And if the end involved an exploding plane and parachuting, yeah, that's the book's plot.

I watched the movie. They picked a good actor though he wasn't 14.... More like 18 pretending to be 14. He worked through the stunts very well.

Enjoyable for a kids movie. The plot seemed a bit thin, but was mostly just "fun." Certainly worth $2.50. :-) I might even pick up the books now and read a few.

If you get a chance, watch the film. Horowitz wrote the screenplay, so I suspect it stayed close to the original storyline.

Awesome! I have the same philosophy; its galling to pay $3 for a movie rental when you can buy the DVD for almost the same amount, and the video for $2 less (library resale; its the way to go on movie night). Usually, if they are scratched at all, its still good enough to watch once or twice. Definately, tell me how the movie goes; some of the action scenes seem written for celluloid. I wonder if they bothered to change the storyline at all? We can compare notes.

Sorry, been to busy to respond earlier. I haven't seen it, but yesterday I saw it in a pawn shop for $2.50. So I bought it. Haven't watched it yet, but I'll let you know. :-) I never buy new DVDs when I can get them from the pawn shop this cheap. :-)
